About Vesperly
Vesperly is an independent review publication with a specific point of view: when it comes to AI companionship, the only metric that matters is how connected you feel. Feature lists and token math are someone else's beat. We exist to answer one question honestly — "will this feel like someone, or like software?"
How we test: the connection criteria
Most review sites score apps on features. We score them on feelings — carefully, and with structure, because feelings are exactly what you're shopping for. Every app goes through the same process:
- Real accounts, real conversations. We sign up like a normal user — including paid plans where needed — and hold actual conversations over several days, not a single test session.
- Conversation warmth. Does the companion respond to how you feel, not just what you said? Do replies flow like a person talking, or like a form being filled? We test with ordinary, emotional, and playful topics.
- Memory across chats. We plant small personal details in early conversations and check whether they're picked up later — within a chat and across sessions. We report what holds and what fades.
- Personality depth. Does the companion feel specific — with quirks, opinions, and consistency — or generic? We test whether the personality survives a week of varied conversation.
- Ease of getting started. How long from signup to a genuinely pleasant conversation? First impressions shape the whole experience, so we time and judge them.
- Feeling of presence. The subjective one, and the most important: after several days, does it feel like someone is there? We check this last, because it's the sum of everything else.
Re-tests and updates
These apps change fast — personalities get retuned, pricing shifts, features appear and vanish. We re-test and update our verdicts at least every quarter, and every page shows its last-updated date. If an app changes, our rankings change.
Editorial independence
We earn money through affiliate commissions (full disclosure here), but commissions never influence scores or rankings. Companies don't preview our reviews, don't pay for placement, and don't see verdicts before publication. If an app feels cold, we say so — even if it pays us.
Our stance on the subject
We take AI companionship seriously and sentimentally. Loneliness is human, and finding comfort in conversation — even generated conversation — is nothing to be embarrassed about. We also believe in clear eyes: these are software products, not people. Our guide to healthy expectations says the rest. All apps we review are 18+ adult platforms.
Who runs this
Vesperly is run by a small independent editorial team. We sign up for every app we review with real accounts, hold the conversations ourselves, and re-test quarterly. We don't accept payment for placement.
Content team: add an editor bio here before launch — a named human behind the bylines builds trust (E-E-A-T).
